St Marys Camp Takes Both Boys And Girls

In a Dreamcatcher film camp, each student writes, shoots, directs, produces and participates in editing a short film within a small group. The camps focus on the fundamental elements of visual storytelling that enable the participants to shoot a short film in 5 days. It is very “hands on”.

Twickenham camps run from Monday to Friday 9am until 2pm.

Weeks are subject to change and need a minimum of 6 students to work effectively

SCRIPTING
Students will learn to take a story from initial idea, through treatment and step outline, to a finished script for their final film. Story structure, plot outline, character development, tension, conflict building and resolution will be explored as they are used in filmmaking.

SHOOTING
Students shoot on digital HD cameras and equipment used during the week includes, but is not limited to Camera Jibs, Tripods, 3 Axis Digital Gimbals, Boom Poles, Wireless Mics, Stedicam etc,* and play each of the working roles in a short TV/film production. At the end of the 5 day course, students will have produced a short film which they take away on DVD.

DIRECTING
Students will be introduced to the language and practice of filmmaking. They will discuss shooting plans for their film. Students will find that directing the camera concerns more than just where to place the camera. Through hands-on demonstrations, they will learn how camera movement, visual arrangement and editing patterns not only depict the action but also express the underlying drama. Each student plays all the different roles on the crew when they are not acting in their own scenes.

EDITING
On the Friday when all the filming has been done, there will be an edit workshop and the chance for students to participate in putting together their film. Finally a digital file of the finished product will be made and a copy will be given to each young film maker.
Students will complete a number of practical projects to test the new skills they have acquired. These skills include
Production planning
Story boarding
Directing
Presenting
Lighting
Sound
Script writing
Set/props/special effects
